The Emu

 

    The Emu (Dromiceus novae-hollandia is a member of the Ratite family, the flightless birds.  A mature bird stands five to six feet tall and can weigh one hundred and twenty pounds. The Emu has three toes.  The Emu originates from Australia, but there are now more birds in the USA than in their homeland.  The Emu is today recognized as a regular farm-animal.  An Emu does not need a large area for living, 25 X 100 feet per breeder pair is already enough. Feed is commercially available.  A good Emu pair can produce up to 40 eggs per year, hatching time is 52 to 56 days.  The Emu is a docile herbivore and the head and neck are feathered.  The Eggs are  three layers and green on the outside.  The Emu is the only bird that has two feathers on one quill.  The products are: "Pure Emu Oil" and products made with Emu Oil, Healthy Meat and Emu Meat Products, fine Leather, Eggs, empty, plain and carved and Feathers.  The oil has many beneficial features and is used in the medical and cosmetic industry.  A chemical analysis shows, the Oil to contain Omega 3, 6 and 9  properties and is mainly oleic and alpha-oleic. (please see "What is Emu Oil")   The meat is the lowest in Cholesterol of any meat and is very high in Iron and Protein.  It is 97% fat-free.
